Bio

Doug McMillan is a guitarist based in North London. A graduate of Birmingham Conservatoire’s jazz degree course he has been fortunate to study with Dave Cliff, Mike Walker, Jez Franks, Percy Pursglove, Zsolt Bende, Mike Williams, Simon King, John Taylor, and Fred T. Baker.

He was previously a member of the renowned Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra, during his time performing with special guests such as Gordon Goodwin/Eric Marienthal/Wayne Bergeron, Jacqui Dankworth, Mark Nightingale, Tony Christie, and Alan Barnes. With the band he was broadcast on BBC Radio 2 alongside the BBC Big Band as well as appearing at Chris Evans’ Carfest 2013.

Doug has performed music all over the world working transatlantically in commercial music as well as touring overseas in jazz bands in Germany, Holland, Ireland and Belgium. He was also lucky to receive the Cork Jazz Festival ‘Jazz Futures’ award, and was invited to play back at the festival the following year.

During his time at the Conservatoire he was able to take part in workshops led by Joe Lovano, Dave Holland, Mark Turner/Phil Robson, Lee Konitz, Jeff Ballard/George Colligan, George Garzone, Jonathan Kreisberg, John Hollenbeck, Chris Speed, Greg Osby, Gary Smulyan, Larry Grenadier, Henry Grimes, and Drew Gress.
